Many of them have gone up a bit since The Rouges Gallery. Here’s a list of the most powerful known mages in the world of Greyhawk. I’ve updated that list since your version Jeff, so here it is. I really think I’ve got them all this time.
This is a list of all the 14+ level priests and mages mentioned in TSR Greyhawk material. Levels and spellings listed are those from the most recent reference. Mortals and undead types are included, as well as quasi-deities, but demigods and up are excluded.

The following are under Castle Greyhawk: [17]
- The “Ring of 5”, consisting of Zagyg and 4 other archmages of alignments NG, NE, LE, CE and levels (not respectively) of 20, 23, 25, 26.
- An 18th level lich (former apprentice of Zagig)
- Another lich of unspecified level (a bookkeeper)
- A demi-lich
- A 14th level apprentice (possibly “Ussisemeel”)
In module EX2, Murlynd is listed as an 18th level magic user. This is changed to 12th level magic user/illusionist/paladin in the World of Greyhawk boxed set.
Gwydiesin of the Cranes N(NG), a 30th level bard, has spell casting abilities on par with an archmage (Grandwood/Lone Heath, Aerdy).[21]
The Spectre is an ancient, non-corporeal elf who can cast at 19th level, though he never leaves his house Shroudgate, which moves to various places in the Almorian lands.[21]
The lich Rexifer (level unknown) dwells in Spiral castle in the Darmen lands of Aerdy. His only interest is research on the blood wars.[21]
Prince Benzeden is “an archmage-noble known to revere Boccob” living in Rasfern in the Western lands of Aerdy.[21]
In the Coldwood (Adri Forest), 20 grey elven Sentinels (20+ combined level fighter/mages) guard the keep Bitterness. Darnakurian, a powerful enchanter, remains locked in temporal stasis within.[21]
The imperial palace in Rauxes holds 30 combat mages of levels 7–14. The city of Winetha (of “The Twin Cities”) also contains a large mages’ guild.[21]
The elven Clan Enlanefel at Oakvein in the Welkwood is home to six Loremasters, “each priest/wizards of 12th or higher level in both classes”.[2]
Iggwilv, necromancer and mother of Iuz, is held prisoner in the abyss by the demon lord Graz’zt.[20] [11]
Keraptis is possibly still under White Plume Mountain.[10]
Aceracak the demi-lich rests in his tomb of horrors.[9]
Lyzandred, a thousand year old lich/demi-lich, dwells in his tomb in the Abbor-Alz, testing adventurers with deadly labrynths.[2]
Randallson the Neat, from the Safeton/Wild Coast area, is mentioned in the A1–4 Scourge of the Slavelords on page 9. His level is suggested as 11 + 2d4.
TSR trading cards mention:
- 20th level LG lich Saragrimm (91 series, #77)
- 15th level NE Grey Agathena (92 series, #71).
The non-canon module WG10 Child’s Play has as a pre-generated character Karmyn, a 14th level NG male elf.
The non-canon module WG7 Castle Greyhawk features Zol Darklock the Shade Prince, f16/m16, N (page 97).
Almost certainly, archmages not specifically named exist on Lendore Isle and in the Baklunish Lands. Other possibilities for mages of level 14+ would be:
